LET THE PUBLIC SPEAK CONTACTS
The Press Democrat, Santa Rosa, CA
A higher place?
EDITOR: Concerning the front-page
article on Saturday regarding the rebuke of the Rev. Jane Spahr, a
Presbyterian minister, it is interesting to note the headline that Spahr
"'acted with conscience' but broke rules".
According to Lawrence Kohlberg,
Harvard scientist/theologian/philosopher who developed stages of moral
development, acting with only the law as your guide is the second lowest
level in moral development, while acting with conscience is one of the
highest levels. Is it
that the Rev. Spahr is just operating at an enlightened higher level of
moral development than the Presbyterian church tribunal?
